Edward G. Robinson did not look like a movie star but he was undeniably a major one, and the folks at Warner Archive Collection prove the point by releasing a trio of his top efforts.
In 1939’s “Blackmail,” Robinson was an ex-con trying to hide his past, while in 1941’s “Unholy Partners” he was a newsman doing business with a gangster. Best of the group is 1941’s “The Sea Wolf,” based on the Jack London novel and containing 14 minutes that have been unseen since the film was cut for a re-release decades ago. – Kenneth Turan
